How We Calculate This

This area calculator uses standard geometric formulas to compute the area of common shapes encountered in building and trade work. All measurements should be entered in metres and results are shown in both square metres (m²) and square feet (ft²).

Formulas used

  • Rectangle: Length × Width
  • Triangle: Base × Height ÷ 2
  • Circle: π × Radius²
  • Trapezium: (Side A + Side B) ÷ 2 × Height
  • L-Shape: Rectangle 1 area + Rectangle 2 area

Unit conversion

To convert from square metres to square feet, we multiply by 10.7639. This is the standard conversion factor used in the UK construction industry. One square metre equals approximately 10.76 square feet.
